Camping is a staple in the fall season. For some it’s taking their mobile campers to the lakeside and having a relaxing time. On the other hand some of us like to live dangerously, we enjoy a good challenge. If this sounds like you then you might be interested in these tips to a more natural camping experience!

Ditch the Tent

So you want to take on the challenge of roughing it? A good place to start is ditching your tent. You would be surprised by the things you can make when you are in the wilderness and freezing cold! Challenge yourself and bring a tarp to make a lean to, or cut down some limbs and build yourself a little shelter. It’s an awesome experience and makes for great stories.

Leave The Phone at Home

Cell phones have become a necessity in today’s busy world. We often never leave the house without them and if we do we turn around to get them. Because of safety purposes, maybe leaving it at home isn’t ideal. Instead try turning it off when you reach your campsite and only using it in case of emergencies. Bring an instrument or a book with you to read. You can even take the time for some self meditation!

Purify Your Own Water

If you camp by a spot with running water you should try purifying your own water. Not only can it potentially taste better than the water you are used to drinking but it offers another element of camping that most people don’t get to experience. Section hiker has some good options here if you want to pick up a water filter for your next camping trip!

Take The OG Approach

Anytime anyone mentions camping, fire will probably cross your mind. If you want the extra challenge on your camping trip, forego the lighters and matches and grab yourself a classic spark fire starter. This will give you a unique experience and make you work a little bit harder to get that Kindling started. (Pro Tip) lint works great as a flame ignition!

Regardless of how you camp or when you camp, Tahlequah has an abundance of camping spots available that will make for the perfect trip for your family.
